In 1966, a small group of civic-minded women with a keen sense of history started conducting bus tours of “Old Los Angeles” as Las Angelitas del Pueblo. Three years later, on June 8, 1969 , their proposal to conduct tours of the plaza area was accepted by the State Historical Commission and Las Angelitas’ first tours of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument began.
Over fifty years later, Las Angelitas has introduced more than half a million people to the “birthplace of Los Angeles.” Our original membership consisted of twenty dedicated, knowledgeable, energetic volunteers. Today there are more than thirty active docents (both men and women) giving tours in multiple languages to thousands of people every year.
If you’re interested in taking a tour please see Free Tours. To join the ranks of our volunteer tour guides, please see Become a Docent.
